We provide the essentials
We know it’s hard enough getting your little one out the door each morning – and that’s without having to double check their bags for nappies, wipes, sun cream etc… that’s why all these things (as well as our delicious home cooked food) come included in our standard sessions. Once you’re registered, you’ll receive a branded nursery bag for your child’s belongings.
What we ask you to bring
Slippers
Why do we wear them at our settings?Wearing slippers whilst at nursery has multiple benefits for the children, and it’s not just to keep our floors clean and sanitary for play.
• Slippers help support developing little feet and promote proper posture during play and movement.
• They reduce the risk of slips and falls on indoor surfaces.
• Slippers help keep little feet warm and protected, supporting overall comfort and well-being.
Water Bottle
Making sure children are hydrated all year roundWe ask you supply a named water bottle for your child.
This enables children to be independent, helping them to get a drink whenever they feel the need.
We encourage regular drinks throughout the day in warmer weather and monitor how much water your child has drunk – topping up as needed.
Your bottle will be returned daily for cleaning.
Outdoor Clothes
We spend considerable time outside, every day, in all weather. This forms the backbone of our curriculum.
IN WINTER: Please provide named wellies, puddle suits (or other waterproof clothing), woolly hat and gloves. We have spares on-site if needed.
IN SUMMER: We mandate a sun hat (bucket or legionnaires style) for sun protection. Staff encourage children to always wear a hat outside. We provide branded Factor 50+ suncream. You can bring your own labelled supply if you prefer.
Absolutely not! We get dirty outside so you don’t need to spend a lot of money on clothing that will quickly get outgrown. You could use eBay/Vinted etc, or swap with a parent at nursery whose child no longer need theirs. We love recycling!
We do have a small selection of boots and puddle suits at each setting – we will never exclude any child who does not have the right clothing or footwear from outdoor play, and will always ensure they are warm and comfortable.
We are happy for you to bring your own suncream, but it must be Factor 50+, and be in date. We will let you know when we are running low so you have ample time to buy more. Please name your suncream bottle!
We mandate that your child’s sun hat is either bucket or legionnaires style. These styles provide the best overall coverage of the head, ears and neck area, whilst keeping the bright sun out of a child’s eyes.
Don’t forget to name your sunhat!
If you forget your child’s hat we do carry a selection of sizes on site at each nursery so your child is protected when outside in the summer months.
We understand that not everyone is a fan of a hat, but we are experts in making wearing one fun! Our trained practitioners will gently support your child into hat wearing, reassuring them and demonstrating it’s good to be safe in the sun.
A fascinating study* conducted by the University of Bournemouth found that children learned better and were more focused in settings when they wore slippers.
The study concluded that wearing slippers created a more relaxed, home-like atmosphere that helped children feel comfortable and less distracted. The sense of coziness also contributed to a calmer environment.
We regularly perform fire drills at our settings. We do not have time to find children’s shoes and evacuate in a timely manner. Your child will be more comfortable outside in wet weather if they have hard soled slippers on.
